Molecular Biology

Molekulinė biologija
The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology is responsible for realization of I-II cycle (BSc and MSc resp.) Molecular Biology studies at Vilnius University.

I cycle (BSc)

For more information on I cycle (BSc) Molecular Biology studies please refer to Admissions section.

II cycle (MSc)

General Information

The duration of studies is 1.5 year which is equivalent to 90 ECTS credits. Graduates acquire a master’s degree in Molecular Biology.

More information on II cycle studies is also available on VU website Vilnius University Invites.

Aims

The Master degree programme in Molecular Biology is devoted to prepare specialists in molecular biology, whose professional qualification would be able to cope with the present and future requirements for biosciences and biotechnologies. The orientation of the Programme is mostly academic, oriented towards scientific research activities, however, including applied research.

The aims of the Molecular Biology Master Programme are:

  • to provide knowledge in molecular biology and related sciences, necessary for independent scientific research, to understand the achievements and perspectives of life sciences, to know and understand modern methods and technologies, necessary for creative development and implementation of scientific ideas;
  • to master the competences for creative application of theoretical knowledge, methods and technologies of molecular biology and related sciences in research and practical work, ability to work in interdisciplinary areas and use knowledge of different scientific fields;
  • to master the skills to identify and predict the ways of solution of a problem, to solve problems of unfamiliar character, collect, generalize and critically evaluate scientific information and its reliability, to understand the responsibility for the decisions taken.
  •  To master the ability to identify scientific and professional interests in the context of molecular biology and related sciences, to develop learning skills allowing to continue to study autonomously, to master the ability to communicate knowledge and concepts to specialists and non- specialists.
